Tesla to Launch First India Showroom in Mumbai, Vehicle Deliveries Likely by Late August

Tesla Inc. is officially entering the Indian automotive market, with its first showroom set to open in Mumbai on Tuesday, according to a report by Bloomberg. The electric vehicle (EV) giant is also gearing up to begin deliveries as early as late August, marking a significant step into the world’s third-largest car market amid global sales pressures.

“Tesla Inc. is set to open its first showroom in India on Tuesday and begin vehicle deliveries as early as late August, Bloomberg reported.”

The Mumbai showroom will serve as Tesla’s launchpad in India, offering customers the ability to explore various vehicle models, compare pricing, and choose from a range of trims and configurations.

“The first showroom will open in Mumbai, providing prospective buyers access to model variants, pricing details, and trim options, reports said.”

Starting next week, customers will be able to customize and place orders for their Tesla vehicles through the new outlet, giving Indian buyers their first direct access to the brand’s offerings.

“Customers will be able to configure and place orders for their Tesla vehicles starting next week.”

Tesla is reportedly planning to follow up with a second showroom in New Delhi, which is expected to open by the end of July. The dual-location strategy indicates the company’s focus on metro markets for its initial rollout.

“A second showroom is expected to launch in New Delhi by the end of July, the report said.”

The initial phase of Tesla’s India strategy includes the import of its popular models—the Model 3 and Model Y. Both are expected to be introduced in limited quantities at first, allowing the company to assess market reception before committing to local manufacturing or broader expansion.

“The company is expected to begin with imports of the Model 3 and Model Y, before expanding operations based on market response.”

Tesla’s entry into India has been the subject of long-running speculation, and this launch could signal growing momentum in the country’s push toward EV adoption. With the Indian government offering incentives for clean mobility and infrastructure improving, Tesla’s arrival could reshape the premium EV segment in the region.
