Nandagopal Rajan has been elevated Chief Executive Officer (Digital) at The Indian Express, marking a significant leadership transition within the company’s digital business.
Rajan steps into the role after more than 12 years with the organisation, during which he has held multiple leadership positions spanning both editorial and business functions.
Sharing the update, he emphasized the responsibility that comes with the role, stating that it goes beyond designation—reflecting a commitment to the organisation’s vision, its content-first philosophy, and its readers who expect credible journalism at all times.
He most recently served as Chief Operating Officer and previously as Business Head. Earlier in his journey, he spent over a decade as Editor – New Media, where he played a pivotal role in building and scaling the digital presence of The Indian Express and Financial Express.
During his tenure, Rajan contributed to strengthening integration between print and digital operations, introduced new content formats, and led the expansion into regional languages through platforms such as ieMalayalam, ieTamil, and ieBangla. He also drove the growth of video content and enhanced audience engagement during key national events, including the 2014 general elections.
Reflecting on the company’s growth, Rajan noted its transformation from a small team of around 30 people in 2013 to a workforce of over 550 today, operating across multiple cities with significantly expanded capabilities, particularly in video and digital content.
Before rejoining The Indian Express in 2013, he worked with India Today Group and Hindustan Times, building experience across editorial and technology-driven journalism roles.
His elevation comes at a time when digital platforms continue to play a central role in news consumption, with increasing emphasis on content-led growth, audience engagement, and multi-platform expansion.
