The United Arab Emirates has successfully foiled a series of organised cyberattacks targeting the nation’s digital infrastructure and key sectors, according to the news agency.
The attacks “included attempts to infiltrate networks, deploy ransomware and conduct systematic phishing campaigns targeting national platforms”, the report said. It further noted that the operations involved the use of artificial intelligence technologies to create advanced offensive tools. Authorities did not attribute responsibility for the incidents.
WAM reported that cyberattacks of a “terrorist nature” were intended to “destabilise the nation and disrupt essential services”. The UAE Cybersecurity Council stated that “the safety of individuals, the protection of personal data, and the continuity of critical services remain top priorities”.
According to the council, the attacks “also involved the exploitation of artificial intelligence technologies to develop sophisticated offensive tools, reflecting a qualitative shift in the methods employed by terrorist groups and their ability to harness modern technologies to carry out digital attacks”.
As per WAM, the Cybersecurity Council has urged members of the public to report any cyber threats or suspicious online activity through official channels. The council “reiterated its full commitment to safeguarding the digital domain, preserving stability”, the agency reported.
