Varun Kumar has been elevated to the position of Director of Cyber Security Operations at Comcast, based in Chennai, where he is responsible for leading the strategic defence and operational resilience of the company’s global digital infrastructure.
The elevation follows his tenure as Senior Manager – Cyber Security Operations, a role he has held since joining Comcast in 2020. During this period, Varun led several mission-critical security functions, including Incident Response, Threat Intelligence, Threat Hunting, and Vulnerability Management. His work has played a key role in advancing the maturity of Comcast’s security operations and data engineering capabilities across the organisation.
Before moving into the director role, Varun built a strong reputation in the cybersecurity domain through senior leadership positions at EY and Juniper Networks. At EY, he served as a Cyber Security Manager, where he oversaw security operations centre (SOC) implementation and governance for more than 30 global clients. His responsibilities included SIEM benchmarking initiatives and the execution of large-scale cyberwar drill campaigns designed to test and strengthen organisational readiness.
Earlier in his career, Varun held technical roles at Infosys Technologies Ltd and Wipro Infotech. During this phase, he developed deep expertise in malware analysis and network security, forming the technical foundation that underpins his current leadership approach.
By combining hands-on technical depth in incident management with experience delivering complex security programs at an executive level, Varun now leads Comcast’s global cybersecurity operations agenda, focusing on resilience, threat preparedness, and operational effectiveness across the company’s digital ecosystem.
