Vasundhara Mudgil Joins OpenAI as India Communications Lead Strengthening the Company’s Regional Presence

OpenAI has appointed Vasundhara Mudgil as its India Communications Lead, signaling a major step in the company’s expansion and strategic focus on the Indian market. With nearly two decades of experience in corporate communications and brand strategy, Mudgil’s appointment underscores OpenAI’s commitment to building a strong narrative and local engagement framework as it deepens its global communications footprint.
Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Mudgil shared her excitement about the new chapter, writing, “After seven fantastic years at Spotify, I’m set for the next challenge at OpenAI. An immense amount of learning to apply, and even more unlearning to do, but always such a thrill to be a part of the market’s core growth team!” Her post reflects both optimism and a growth mindset as she transitions from one global technology brand to another at the forefront of innovation.
Before joining OpenAI, Mudgil spent seven years at Spotify, where she was instrumental in shaping the company’s communications and go-to-market strategy in India. She played a key role in positioning Spotify as a culturally relevant and trusted brand in one of its most dynamic and competitive markets. Prior to her tenure at Spotify, Mudgil held leadership roles at Intel and Genesis, where she honed her skills in media relations, strategic storytelling, and crisis communications—areas that will be invaluable in her new role at OpenAI.
Her career reflects a consistent focus on building brand credibility and driving strategic communications that resonate with both internal and external stakeholders. As OpenAI continues to expand its global presence, particularly in fast-growing technology ecosystems like India, Mudgil’s experience across technology, media, and corporate strategy is expected to help the company strengthen its narrative, engage local audiences, and navigate complex communication challenges in the region.
With India emerging as a crucial market for AI development and adoption, Mudgil’s appointment marks not only a leadership transition but also a statement of intent—signaling OpenAI’s dedication to fostering meaningful dialogue, transparency, and community engagement in one of the world’s most dynamic digital economies.
