Visa is taking a major step toward accelerating agentic AI adoption in payments with the introduction of two key innovations — the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server and the Visa Acceptance Agent Toolkit. These solutions are designed to make AI-driven commerce more accessible and scalable, catering to both developers and non-developers.
The MCP Server enables AI agents to securely connect with Visa’s Intelligent Commerce APIs, creating a direct integration layer that drastically reduces development timelines — cutting them down from weeks to just hours. By allowing AI agents to dynamically interpret user requests and apply Visa APIs in various real-world contexts, the MCP Server opens the door to next-generation commerce experiences. Visa has confirmed that this capability will soon be available across its entire API portfolio, offering developers unprecedented flexibility to build intelligent, automated payment workflows.
Alongside this, the Visa Acceptance Agent Toolkit targets non-developers, providing a no-code interface that translates plain-language instructions into actionable online commerce tasks. Currently in pilot phase, the toolkit allows users to perform operations like creating invoices or generating secure payment links without writing a single line of code — making it easier for small businesses and individuals to adopt AI-enabled payment solutions.
These initiatives build on Visa’s Intelligent Commerce platform, launched in April, which established a framework for trusted AI-driven experiences across Visa’s global network. With the new tools, Visa is equipping developers, merchants, and partners with everything they need to create secure, automated, and intelligent commerce applications at scale.
