
Vivek Yadav has closed the year with a significant leadership milestone, stepping into the role of Director (IT & Cyber Security) at the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The appointment marks a new chapter in his career, positioning him at the forefront of safeguarding and advancing India’s digital defence infrastructure at a time when cybersecurity and technology resilience are central to national security.
In his current role, Yadav provides strategic leadership across IT governance, cybersecurity and digital transformation initiatives within the Ministry of Defence. With more than 15 years of experience spanning the Ministry of Electronics & IT, the defence ecosystem and the Indian Navy, he has built a strong track record of leading mission-critical programmes that sit at the intersection of national security and emerging technologies. His work has consistently focused on ensuring that complex digital systems are secure, scalable and aligned with long-term strategic objectives.
As the head of the IT and Cybersecurity vertical, Yadav oversees the planning, execution and governance of large-scale secure digital platforms. His contributions have supported several high-impact Government of India initiatives, including nationwide digitisation efforts, blockchain-enabled trust frameworks, secure information systems and the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR). These initiatives have played a key role in strengthening information sharing, situational awareness and digital trust across government and defence operations.
Yadav holds an M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. His academic research background spans blockchain technologies, cybersecurity, cryptography and formal verification, equipping him with a strong technical foundation to support informed executive-level decision-making. This blend of deep technical expertise and policy-driven leadership has been central to his ability to deliver outcomes in complex, high-stakes environments.
Over the years, he has led turnkey, national-scale projects, including the establishment of data centres, cybersecurity laboratories and secure government IT infrastructure. His leadership style is described as collaborative and outcome-oriented, with a focus on building resilient teams, fostering stakeholder trust and translating complex technical challenges into clear strategic actions.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Yadav is a certified combat diver with a keen interest in underwater diving. The information shared remains generic, in line with prevailing government policies.
