The Washington Post is investigating a suspected cyberattack that targeted the email accounts of several of its journalists, a source familiar with the matter confirmed on Sunday.
According to the source, there appears to have been an unauthorized and targeted intrusion affecting a select number of reporters. The breach reportedly compromised Microsoft email accounts, potentially allowing access to sensitive work correspondence.
The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the incident, suggested that the cyberattack may have been carried out by a foreign government.
Those targeted include journalists from the Washington Post’s national security and economic policy teams—particularly individuals covering China, according to the report.
The Washington Post has not yet issued an official statement regarding the scope or origin of the breach. Investigations are currently ongoing.
