AI meeting assistant Fireflies.ai, trusted by 75% of Fortune 500 companies, has officially reached unicorn status with a $1 billion valuation following its first tender offer. The company, known for automating note-taking and transcription in virtual meetings, also announced a new product innovation that blends real-time AI with search.
“Reaching this significant valuation milestone while remaining profitable validates our approach to building an AI company differently from the conventional ‘raise big, burn fast’ playbook,” said Krish Ramineni, cofounder and CEO of Fireflies.
As part of its next chapter, Fireflies has teamed up with Perplexity to launch “Talk to Fireflies”, a cutting-edge voice-activated feature that integrates web search directly into meetings. The feature enables users to ask questions during live meetings—via voice or text—and get instant answers powered by Perplexity’s AI, all without leaving platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams.
“By integrating Perplexity’s search capabilities into Fireflies, we’re eliminating the need to switch contexts or postpone decisions,” noted Dmitry Shevelenko, Chief Business Officer at Perplexity.
Ramineni added, “This turns Fireflies into your most knowledgeable teammate,” highlighting the assistant’s growing role in collaborative decision-making.
To mark the milestone, Fireflies and Perplexity are offering cross-platform perks for Pro and Enterprise users. With developments underway to enable AI agents that can autonomously attend meetings, Fireflies is signaling a bold leap forward in the evolution of intelligent work tools.
