Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant, is reportedly planning to establish a new facility in Tamil Nadu dedicated to producing iPhone enclosures, according to a report.
The proposed unit is expected to come up within the ESR Industrial Park in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu. Quoting a source familiar with the matter, the report stated, “Foxconn plans to start making enclosures in Tamil Nadu as they deepen their footprint in the country. Construction has begun for their enclosures unit at the industrial park. This will be a separate unit close to their upcoming display module assembly plant which is in advanced stages in the same industrial park.”
Foxconn is yet to officially comment on the development.
This move aligns with broader trends in the Indian electronics manufacturing ecosystem. Tata Electronics is reportedly ramping up iPhone enclosure production at its Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu, with plans to scale output to 100,000 units.
Foxconn is also working to significantly scale its iPhone production in India, with a target of manufacturing 25–30 million iPhones from its Indian facilities this year—more than double the output from the previous year.
The company has been aggressively expanding its manufacturing footprint across the country. In 2023, it acquired a 300-acre plot near Bengaluru International Airport, committing INR 25,000 Cr to the project. In a separate development, Foxconn entered discussions with the Tamil Nadu government last November regarding a 200-acre site to support its battery manufacturing operations in the country.
Additionally, the Union Cabinet has approved a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn to set up a semiconductor fabrication unit in Noida. The initiative, part of the India Semiconductor Mission, involves a cumulative investment of INR 3,700 Cr from both companies.
