Rakuten Group, Inc. has announced a key leadership change with the appointment of Tsubasa (Tsuby) Shiraishi as the new Chief Executive Officer of Rakuten India, effective August 5, 2025. Shiraishi, who currently serves as Vice Chairman of Rakuten India and General Manager of the IT Strategy Department at the Group level, brings nearly 20 years of global leadership experience to his new role.
Shiraishi has been instrumental in Rakuten India’s development over the past five years, contributing significantly to innovation and the strategic integration of Rakuten’s operations within the broader global ecosystem. Speaking on his appointment, he stated, “It is a great honor to take on the role of CEO at this pivotal moment. Together, we will strengthen our strategic alignment with the Group and unlock new opportunities that benefit our customers worldwide.”
He succeeds Sunil Gopinath, who has led Rakuten India since 2017. Under Gopinath’s leadership, the company underwent a major transformation, evolving into a critical part of Rakuten’s global technology operations.
