Rishi Awasthi has taken over as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited, the investment manager of Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund.
Awasthi brings nearly 15 years of experience across cybersecurity, information security and risk management in the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), technology, telecom and consulting sectors.
Before taking on the CISO role, Awasthi was associated with Aditya Birla Capital Limited from May 2023 as Lead Privacy and IS Audit. In this position, he was responsible for enterprise-wide initiatives covering cybersecurity governance, risk management, regulatory compliance and data privacy.
Prior to joining Aditya Birla Capital, Awasthi worked with RSM India, Willis Towers Watson, Deloitte India and Tata Consultancy Services. His experience across these organisations includes cybersecurity, IT assurance and technology risk.
Awasthi holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science Engineering from SRM University and an MBA in IT Business Management from Symbiosis International University. He has also completed the General Management Programme at the Indian School of Business (ISB).
His professional certifications include Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and Associate Certified Chief Information Security Officer (Associate CCISO), among other qualifications.
The appointment was approved by the company’s board of directors on September 18, 2026, following a recommendation from the Nomination, Remuneration and Compensation Committee.
Awasthi succeeds Basil Dange, whose resignation from the position of CISO was accepted with effect from the close of business on September 25, 2026, citing personal reasons.
Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited is part of the Aditya Birla Capital Group and serves as the investment manager of Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund. Awasthi’s appointment places him in charge of information security leadership at the asset management company.
