Apollo Hospitals, Chennai has announced the appointment of Dr (Major) Dheeraj Reddy Dantapally (MD, MBA, Ex-Indian Army) as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). “With a robust background in hospital administration, medical operations, and P&L management, Dr Dheeraj brings over a decade of experience spanning reputed institutions such as Medicover Hospitals, AMERICAN ONCOLOGY INSTITUTE – Precision Cancer Care, Ivy Healthcare, and Max Super Speciality Hospital.” His appointment marks a key leadership enhancement aimed at strengthening Apollo’s operational efficiency and clinical excellence.
In his new role, Dr Dheeraj will be responsible for overseeing marketing, business operations, and clinical strategy, ensuring alignment with Apollo’s long-term growth objectives and adherence to key compliance standards including NABH and ISO. His track record in driving institutional excellence, managing complex healthcare ecosystems, and focusing on patient-centered delivery models makes him a valuable asset to Apollo’s Chennai operations.

Prior to this role, Dr Dheeraj served as Business Unit Head at Medicover Hospitals, where he managed a 350-bed super speciality hospital along with a 100-bed cancer institute in Nellore. His tenure was marked by significant operational improvements and the successful implementation of strategic growth initiatives.
His earlier role as Regional Head – Medical Administrator for Andhra Pradesh at the American Oncology Institute demonstrated his ability to lead high-performing teams in the oncology care space, where precision and operational rigor are critical.
