Google Wins $10 Billion Meta Cloud Deal to Power AI Ambitions

In a major development in the global cloud computing race, Google has secured a six-year contract worth $10 billion from Meta, according to sources familiar with the matter. The agreement, centered on artificial intelligence infrastructure, significantly broadens Meta’s dependency beyond its existing cloud partners Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure.

The deal comes at a time when Meta is aggressively ramping up investments in AI infrastructure and talent. The company’s projected expenditure for 2025 stands between $114 billion and $118 billion, with a large portion directed toward scaling its Llama family of models and embedding advanced AI features across its platforms. These efforts demand enormous computational capacity, surpassing what Meta’s own data centers can currently handle, making partnerships with hyperscalers like Google crucial.

For Google Cloud, this contract represents one of its most high-profile wins yet, reinforcing its position as a formidable player in the AI cloud space. The agreement follows its recent partnership with OpenAI, highlighting Google’s growing role in powering large-scale AI workloads. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, reported that Google Cloud earned $13.6 billion in revenue during the second quarter, achieving 32% year-on-year growth — a rate that far outpaced overall company expansion.

Industry experts note that while Google and Meta are fierce competitors in digital advertising, the agreement demonstrates how rivalries can be set aside in the pursuit of AI advancement. The collaboration underscores the urgency among tech giants to secure computing resources capable of supporting the next generation of AI-driven services.

By diversifying its cloud providers, Meta reduces its reliance on AWS and Azure while gaining access to Google Cloud’s AI-optimized infrastructure. For Google, the contract not only delivers significant revenue but also positions it at the center of the AI race — one where scale, speed, and infrastructure dominance are becoming decisive factors.

This landmark deal signals a reshaping of cloud alliances, with AI emerging as the key battleground. Both companies stand to benefit — Meta by securing the compute power it needs for its AI roadmap, and Google by cementing itself as a critical enabler of the industry’s most ambitious AI projects.
