Sahamati Labs and Google Cloud India Launch AI Centre of Excellence to Advance Financial Inclusion

Sahamati Labs, the innovation unit of India’s Account Aggregator (AA) industry alliance, has partnered with Google Cloud India to embed artificial intelligence (AI) into the AA framework. The collaboration introduces an AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) that aims to set a global benchmark for financial inclusion, strengthening the country’s digital economy by making financial services more secure, inclusive, and affordable.

The initiative will focus on three key areas: expanding access with Indic language tools, enhancing trust through fraud and identity safeguards, and boosting efficiency to ensure faster, more cost-effective delivery of financial services. The effort builds on India’s AA framework, which already facilitates consent-driven data sharing for more than 2.12 billion accounts.

“At Google Cloud, we believe technology should be inclusive. By bringing our AI into India’s Account Aggregator framework, we are helping make financial services safer, more accessible, creating a model that can inspire financial ecosystems worldwide,” said Sashikumar Sreedharan, managing director of Google Cloud India.

Generative AI will play a central role in the CoE, powering predictive insights, personalized recommendations, and fraud detection systems. The design will also rely on privacy-preserving technologies to safeguard sensitive financial transactions, ensuring that AI-driven innovation is matched with strong data protection standards.

Echoing the transformative vision behind the partnership, B.G. Mahesh, chief executive of Sahamati, noted: “Its success depends on trust, inclusion, and innovation. By embedding AI at its core with Google Cloud, we are setting the stage for India to once again define a new global benchmark, this time for financial inclusion at scale.”

The AA framework was created to enable individuals and businesses to share their financial data securely with consent, enabling better credit access and digital participation. By embedding AI into this system, Sahamati Labs and Google Cloud aim to ensure that every citizen—regardless of language, literacy, or geography—can engage with the digital economy on equal terms.

This partnership underscores how India is leveraging AI to build scalable, trust-driven digital infrastructure that could serve as a model for global financial ecosystems.
