EyeROV Secures ₹47 Crore Contract to Supply Advanced Underwater Drones to Indian Navy

Indian marine robotics startup EyeROV (IROV TECHNOLOGIES PRIVATE LIMITED), based in Kochi, has secured a ₹47 crore contract with the Indian Navy to supply advanced Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROVs). The field-tested drones, capable of deep-sea operations exceeding 400 metres, are set to enhance the Navy’s underwater surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities while highlighting India’s indigenous innovation in defence technology.

The Kochi-based startup, founded in 2017, has steadily built a reputation for designing robust underwater systems. Kannappa Palaniappan P, co-founder and CTO, said, “For eight years, EyeROV has engineered underwater systems tested in the harshest conditions. This partnership with the Navy is proof that Indian innovation can set benchmarks globally in defence deep-tech.” One of the models included in the contract, the TROUT vehicle, is depth-rated to 300 metres and is designed for missions in challenging marine environments, further bolstering the Navy’s operational readiness.

EyeROV has completed over 100 deployments across India, West Asia, Asia-Pacific, and Europe, earning recognition as one of India’s top five defence technology startups and winning the National Startup Award in 2022. Its expertise spans complex underwater robotics, sensor integration, and real-time mission support, enabling reliable performance in harsh marine conditions.

Johns T Mathai, co-founder and CEO of EyeROV, emphasized the role of domestic support, stating, “We sincerely thank the iDEX and Navy teams for their support in fostering advanced indigenous solutions. Our vision has always been to serve the nation by delivering technologies that are at par with global standards.” The company’s collaboration with the Navy reflects a growing emphasis on leveraging homegrown technologies for strategic defence capabilities, reducing dependency on foreign suppliers while nurturing local innovation.

This contract represents a significant milestone for EyeROV, positioning the startup as a key player in India’s defence deep-tech ecosystem. By delivering cutting-edge UWROVs for underwater missions, the company not only strengthens the Navy’s operational capabilities but also showcases the potential of Indian startups in advancing high-technology solutions in the global defence market.
