Cognizant Expands Synapse Initiative to Upskill Two Million People Globally by 2030

Cognizant has significantly broadened its global skilling ambitions, announcing a new target to upskill two million individuals worldwide by 2030. This expansion comes after the company surpassed its previous milestone of training one million people well ahead of schedule, reinforcing its commitment to building a workforce prepared for rapid technological disruption. Announcing the enhanced goals, CEO Ravi Kumar S said, “The expansion of our Synapse commitment marks a significant step toward building a more future-ready workforce. We are proud to have surpassed our initial goal ahead of schedule, a testament to the dedication of our teams and partners.”

The acceleration of artificial intelligence adoption across industries has reshaped the global talent landscape, intensifying the need for massive workforce transformation. Cognizant referenced a study conducted with Oxford Economics, which revealed that 90 percent of jobs across all levels are expected to experience some degree of disruption over the next decade. This data underscores the urgency of creating accessible and inclusive learning pathways that enable individuals and organizations to adapt at scale.

Synapse, Cognizant’s flagship skilling ecosystem, is designed to break down socio-economic, cultural and linguistic barriers in education and professional development. The initiative provides a combination of jobseeker training programs, STEM-focused volunteer efforts led by Cognizant employees, and collaborative learning models developed with governments, academic institutions, nonprofits and industry partners. Through these channels, Synapse aims to democratize access to in-demand digital and technology skills, especially in communities that have traditionally been underserved.

As part of its expanded commitment, Cognizant plans to enhance its learning and development infrastructure and strengthen partnerships with global educational institutions. The company is also creating personalized learning tracks aligned with the evolving needs of its clients and the broader digital economy. Additionally, Cognizant intends to introduce branded learning experiences directly into client locations, university campuses and NGO partner sites, ensuring more people can benefit from industry-relevant training at the source.

Looking ahead, Cognizant will also increase philanthropic investments in community programs aligned with Synapse’s mission. These initiatives aim to cultivate sustainable, long-term opportunities for individuals at various stages of their careers, helping them stay competitive and adaptable in a world where technology continues to evolve at unprecedented speed.
