Rachakonda Sees Dip in Cybercrime Cases, Investment Fraud Tops the List

Hyderabad: Cybercrime cases in the Rachakonda region have shown a decline, but the overall volume continues to remain a significant challenge for law enforcement. According to data released by the Cybercrime Wing, 3,734 cases were reported in 2025, compared to 4,618 cases in 2024.

Investment-related fraud emerged as the most prevalent offence, accounting for 1,512 cases, followed by part-time job scams with 1,215 cases. Other reported categories included digital arrest scams (237 cases), unauthorised transactions (216), job fraud (137), loan fraud (125), and fake customer care fraud (122). Authorities also recorded 96 cases involving malicious APK files. In addition, frauds linked to credit cards, OLX transactions, gift scams, matrimonial platforms, and other online schemes formed a substantial share of complaints.

Commenting on the recovery efforts, G Sudheer Babu, Rachakonda Police Commissioner, said nearly Rs 40.1 crore of money lost by victims of cybercrime was refunded so far.

On the enforcement side, police executed 41 PT warrants, arrested or served notices to 92 individuals involved in cyber fraud, and stepped up inter-State follow-up actions.

As part of preventive measures, the Cybercrime Wing conducted 955 cybercrime awareness programmes, reaching over one lakh people, with a focus on promoting digital safety and fraud awareness.
