Wagh Bakri Tea Group Names Swayampriya Shah as Chief Human Resources Officer

Wagh Bakri Tea Group has appointed Swayampriya Shah as its new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), reinforcing its leadership team as the company sharpens its focus on organisational strength and workforce strategy.

Shah joins the Ahmedabad-based tea major after spending more than seven years at Bira 91, where she held several senior HR leadership positions. She joined Bira 91 in September 2016 as Director – HR and was later promoted to Vice President – HR and Administration. In January 2022, she stepped into the role of Senior Vice President – HR and Administration, which she held until her move to Wagh Bakri.

In her new position, Shah will oversee the company’s overall people strategy, including talent development, workforce capability enhancement and organisational transformation initiatives. Her responsibilities will involve aligning culture and talent practices with the company’s long-term growth objectives.

Announcing her appointment on LinkedIn, Shah wrote:
“I am excited to announce that I have joined Wagh Bakri Group as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).

Wagh Bakri’s enduring legacy and strong values have established one of India’s most respected brands. I look forward to collaborating with our teams to shape a progressive people agenda, strengthen organizational capability, and cultivate a culture that promotes both performance and purpose.

I am thankful for the experiences that have led me to this point and looking forward to the journey ahead.”

During her tenure at Bira 91, Shah played a significant role in shaping talent strategy, leadership development programs and HR operations for a rapidly expanding consumer business. She contributed to scaling HR systems and driving organisational restructuring to support the company’s growth trajectory.

Earlier in her career, Shah served as HR Director at Text 100 (now Archetype) from 2001 to 2006. She then joined Beam Global Spirits & Wine in 2007 as DGM – HR. Subsequently, she moved to CMGRP India as Director – Human Resources & Talent, India, where she led HR and talent management for Weber Shandwick’s India operations. In September 2015, she was appointed Director – Human Resources at Cohn & Wolfe Six Degrees PR.

Shah holds an MBA in Human Resources from FORE School of Management, New Delhi.

For Wagh Bakri Tea Group, the appointment signals a continued effort to formalize and strengthen people processes as the organisation expands. In a competitive consumer landscape marked by shifting workforce expectations, strong HR leadership is increasingly viewed as essential to sustaining performance and building long-term resilience.

In her new role, Shah is expected to implement a cohesive and forward-looking people framework that supports business growth while upholding the legacy and core values of one of India’s established tea brands.
