HyperVerge has secured a two-year contract worth ₹1 crore under the Government’s IndiaAI Face Authentication Challenge to deploy its AI-powered face recognition technology across public sector projects. The initiative is aimed at strengthening identity verification systems and reducing fraud in large-scale government processes.
The challenge was launched by the Government to address issues that arise from the massive volume of applications submitted annually for government opportunities. With millions of candidates applying each year, ensuring a transparent and merit-based selection process has become a critical priority.
HyperVerge’s solution was designed to address key risks such as duplicate applications and candidate impersonation. The company demonstrated its ability to automatically detect duplicate identities across millions of applications, even when photographs vary in lighting conditions, pose, image quality or age.
The system’s ability to identify duplicate records from low-quality application images, combined with its robust engineering capabilities, played an important role in the company securing the contract. The deployments are also structured to comply with applicable data protection regulations and purpose limitation requirements.
In 2024, HyperVerge’s face recognition technology was independently benchmarked against standards set by the US Department of Homeland Security, which are considered among the most rigorous global evaluations for biometric systems. This assessment reinforced the system’s accuracy and resilience.
Commenting on the development, Kedar Kulkarni, CEO of HyperVerge, said national-scale identity systems require high levels of accuracy, consistency, bias control and resilience against adversarial attacks.
He added that the company’s technology will support critical public-sector use cases, particularly within institutions that conduct national public examinations, where reliability and fairness have a direct impact on millions of citizens.
Beyond public-sector deployments, HyperVerge also provides identity verification and fraud prevention solutions to major financial institutions, including several leading banks and non-banking financial companies.
