TCS in Advanced Discussions to Build More AI Data Centres Across India

India’s largest IT services company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), is in advanced discussions with multiple technology players and hyperscale’s to establish additional artificial-intelligence data centres in India. The move reflects growing demand for large-scale AI infrastructure as companies across sectors accelerate the adoption of generative AI and advanced computing systems.

TCS CEO K Krithivasan said the company is actively exploring partnerships with several global technology providers to build new facilities designed specifically for AI workloads. These discussions highlight the company’s broader strategy to expand India’s digital infrastructure and position the country as a major hub for artificial intelligence computing.

According to Krithivasan, India is expected to require around 10 gigawatts of AI-focused data centre capacity by 2030, while only about 5 to 6 gigawatts have been announced so far. This gap represents a significant opportunity for infrastructure development, and TCS is aiming to play a key role in building the capacity needed to support the next wave of AI growth.

“We are very, very bullish,” Krithivasan said while discussing the company’s outlook for AI infrastructure. He emphasized that the country is likely to see substantial unmet demand for AI computing power by the end of the decade, which will require major investments in data centres, high-performance computing systems, and cloud infrastructure.

The expansion of AI data centres is becoming increasingly important as businesses rely on powerful computing resources to train and deploy advanced models. AI workloads require specialized infrastructure such as high-density servers, advanced cooling systems, and fast networking capabilities, making traditional data centres insufficient for many AI applications. TCS believes that investing early in AI-ready infrastructure will help meet the rising demand from enterprises adopting generative AI technologies.

The initiative also comes amid broader changes in the global technology landscape. Large IT services companies are adapting their strategies to respond to the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, which is reshaping how software, cloud services, and enterprise solutions are developed and delivered. TCS, which built its reputation providing technology services to global corporations, is now focusing heavily on AI-driven infrastructure and solutions.

The company has already been investing heavily in this direction. TCS previously partnered with investment firm TPG to expand its AI-focused data-centre business called HyperVault, with plans to develop gigawatt-scale AI-ready infrastructure. The project aims to support large-scale computing needs for AI training and deployment while strengthening India’s position in the global technology ecosystem.

At the same time, several global technology companies are expanding their AI infrastructure in India, reflecting the country’s rapidly growing digital economy and large internet user base. As businesses and governments increasingly deploy AI tools, the demand for high-performance computing capacity is expected to surge over the next decade.

If the ongoing negotiations result in new partnerships, TCS could significantly expand India’s AI computing infrastructure, helping bridge the projected capacity gap while enabling enterprises to deploy advanced artificial intelligence applications at scale. The move would also strengthen India’s ambition to become a global centre for AI development and digital innovation.
