Sandberg and Clegg Join Nscale Board as AI Infrastructure Startup Hits $14.6B Valuation

AI infrastructure startup Nscale has strengthened its leadership team by appointing former Meta executives Sheryl Sandberg and Nick Clegg to its board of directors as the company reaches a valuation of $14.6 billion following a major funding round.

The appointments come alongside a $2 billion Series C funding round led by Norway’s industrial investment firm Aker and venture investor 8090 Industries. The round also drew participation from several global investors, including Nvidia, Citadel, Dell and Jane Street, reflecting strong investor confidence in the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure market.

Founded in 2024, Nscale develops large-scale artificial intelligence computing infrastructure by operating its own data centres, GPU clusters and software stack designed to deliver high-performance AI compute for enterprise customers.

The company’s new board members bring extensive leadership experience from the global technology sector. Sheryl Sandberg previously served as chief operating officer at Meta, while Nick Clegg, the former UK deputy prime minister, was most recently Meta’s president of global affairs. Former Yahoo president Susan Decker has also joined the company’s board.

Nscale’s rapid growth has been driven by the surge in demand for AI computing capacity from major technology companies. The startup has secured large infrastructure projects, including a contract worth up to $14 billion with Microsoft to develop AI data centre capacity in the United States.

The company is also involved in developing the Stargate Norway project, a large-scale AI infrastructure initiative designed to deploy tens of thousands of Nvidia GPUs and support next-generation artificial intelligence workloads in Europe.

The latest funding positions Nscale among Europe’s most valuable AI startups and comes amid a global race to build the computing infrastructure required to power advanced AI systems. The company is reportedly preparing for a potential public listing, though a timeline for the IPO has not yet been disclosed.
