Semiconductor services firm Trio-Tech has disclosed a ransomware attack affecting one of its subsidiaries in Singapore, highlighting growing cybersecurity risks within the chip supply chain. The incident occurred on March 11, 2026, and resulted in the encryption of certain files within the company’s network.
Following the breach, the subsidiary immediately activated its incident response protocols, taking systems offline to contain the attack and prevent further spread. The company also engaged third-party cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement authorities as part of its response measures.
Initially, Trio-Tech assessed that the incident would not have a material impact on its operations. However, the situation escalated when threat actors began publishing stolen data, prompting the company to reconsider and classify the breach as a potentially material cybersecurity event.
The full extent of the compromised data is still under investigation, and the company is in the process of notifying affected parties as required by law. It is also working with its cyber insurance provider to support remediation efforts and assess potential claims.
While Trio-Tech has stated that the incident has not caused any significant disruption to its operations so far, the long-term impact will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation and the scope of data exposure. The attack also underscores the increasing targeting of smaller firms within critical technology supply chains, which often serve as entry points for cyber threats.
