Nvidia invests $2 billion in Marvell to expand custom AI infrastructure ecosystem

Nvidia has announced a $2 billion investment in Marvell Technology as part of a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the development of custom artificial intelligence infrastructure. The move reflects Nvidia’s efforts to remain central to the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem, particularly as demand for specialized chips continues to grow.

The collaboration will focus on integrating Marvell’s semi-custom silicon and networking technologies with Nvidia’s existing computing and connectivity platforms. By combining capabilities, the two companies aim to make it easier for customers to deploy customized AI systems that can operate efficiently within Nvidia-powered data centers.

A key component of the partnership is Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion platform, which enables the development of semi-custom AI infrastructure. Under this framework, Marvell will contribute its custom accelerators and networking solutions, while Nvidia will provide supporting technologies including CPUs, networking hardware, and interconnect systems. This integration is expected to offer greater flexibility for enterprises building large-scale AI environments.

The companies also plan to collaborate on advanced networking technologies such as silicon photonics and optical interconnects, which are critical for improving data transfer speeds and energy efficiency in AI systems. These innovations are aimed at addressing key bottlenecks in AI infrastructure, particularly in high-performance data centers where bandwidth and power consumption are major challenges.

The investment comes amid a broader surge in global spending on AI infrastructure, with major technology companies expected to invest at least $630 billion in 2026. This growing demand is driving the need for more efficient and scalable semiconductor solutions, creating opportunities for partnerships like the one between Nvidia and Marvell.

The announcement also highlights a shift in the AI hardware market, where companies are increasingly exploring custom processors alongside traditional GPUs. By supporting a more open and flexible ecosystem, Nvidia aims to maintain its leadership position while enabling a wider range of AI workloads to run on its infrastructure.
