DayOne commits $7 billion to Malaysia as AI-driven data center demand accelerates

Singapore-based data center operator DayOne has announced plans to invest $7 billion in Malaysia, reinforcing Southeast Asia’s growing importance as a hub for artificial intelligence infrastructure. The investment will support the expansion of large-scale data center facilities designed to meet rising demand for cloud computing and AI workloads across the region.

The company has already made significant progress in Malaysia, having invested more than RM14 billion since 2022. With the latest commitment, DayOne’s cumulative investment in the country is expected to exceed RM28 billion by the end of 2026, highlighting its long-term strategy to scale operations and strengthen its regional footprint.

The expansion is part of a broader effort to build hyperscale infrastructure capable of supporting advanced AI applications and enterprise cloud services. As demand for high-performance computing continues to rise, companies like DayOne are increasing investments in data centers that can deliver the capacity, speed, and efficiency required for next-generation technologies.

Malaysia has emerged as a key destination for such investments due to its strategic location, access to energy resources, and supportive government policies. The country is increasingly attracting global data center operators looking to diversify their infrastructure and reduce reliance on traditional hubs, while also benefiting from Southeast Asia’s fast-growing digital economy.

DayOne’s investment also reflects a wider industry trend, where massive capital is being deployed into AI infrastructure worldwide. As businesses and governments accelerate digital transformation, the need for scalable and resilient data center capacity is becoming critical, driving record levels of funding and development across multiple regions.
With this $7 billion commitment, DayOne is positioning itself as a major player in the global data center market, while contributing to Malaysia’s ambition to become a leading technology and AI infrastructure hub in Southeast Asia.
