SK hynix to supply next-generation AI storage drives to Dell for advanced PC systems

South Korean chipmaker SK hynix has announced plans to supply its latest advanced storage solutions to Dell Technologies, marking a key development in the rapidly evolving AI PC market. The move reflects growing collaboration between semiconductor companies and hardware manufacturers as demand rises for devices capable of handling artificial intelligence workloads.

The company revealed that it will begin full-scale shipments of its newly launched solid-state drive, the PQC21, to Dell starting this month. The product is built using 321-layer QLC NAND flash technology, a high-density memory architecture designed to deliver enhanced storage capacity and efficiency for AI-enabled personal computers.

The PQC21 drive is engineered to meet the increasing performance requirements of AI-powered computing environments. According to SK hynix, the new storage solution offers improvements in capacity, speed, and power efficiency, making it well-suited for next-generation PCs that process AI tasks directly on the device rather than relying on cloud-based systems.

This partnership highlights a broader shift toward on-device AI computing, where personal computers are being equipped with specialized hardware to run AI applications locally. As AI adoption expands across industries, demand for high-performance storage and memory components has surged, prompting chipmakers to develop optimized solutions tailored for these workloads.

SK hynix also indicated that it plans to expand supply of the new SSDs beyond Dell to other global partners, signaling its ambition to strengthen its position in the emerging AI PC segment. The company aims to capture a larger share of the client SSD market, particularly in QLC-based storage solutions designed for consumer and enterprise computing.

The development comes amid a wider industry trend where semiconductor companies are prioritizing AI-driven products due to strong global demand. With AI increasingly integrated into everyday computing devices, collaborations like the one between SK hynix and Dell are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of personal computing and digital infrastructure.
