India — FUJIFILM India Pvt Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM) to explore the establishment of a semiconductor materials production base in Dholera, strengthening India’s growing semiconductor manufacturing and electronics supply chain ambitions.
The agreement was announced during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference held in Vadodara and represents Fujifilm India’s latest strategic move toward participating in India’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem. Under the MoU, the company will assess investment opportunities in Dholera while collaborating with the Gujarat government, industry associations, and private sector stakeholders.
The proposed initiative is expected to focus on semiconductor materials manufacturing, an increasingly critical segment within the global semiconductor value chain as countries worldwide seek to localize chip manufacturing infrastructure and reduce supply chain dependencies.
Commenting on the development, Koji Wada, Managing Director of Fujifilm India, stated that the MoU represents an important milestone in the company’s India semiconductor strategy and moves the organization closer toward potential investment plans in Dholera.
Fujifilm’s Electronic Materials Division develops specialized chemical formulations and advanced materials used in semiconductor fabrication processes. The company is now exploring opportunities to bring that expertise into India as domestic semiconductor demand rises rapidly across sectors including electronics, automotive, telecommunications, industrial systems, cloud infrastructure, and artificial intelligence.
Industry observers note that semiconductor materials are becoming strategically important as governments globally focus not only on chip fabrication capacity but also on strengthening upstream supply chains involving chemicals, specialty gases, photoresists, wafer materials, and semiconductor process technologies.
The development also aligns with India’s broader semiconductor mission, under which both central and state governments are aggressively promoting investments across semiconductor fabrication, packaging, testing, electronics manufacturing, and semiconductor ecosystem development.
Dholera is increasingly emerging as one of India’s key semiconductor and electronics manufacturing destinations, supported by infrastructure investments, industrial corridor development, and policy incentives aimed at attracting global semiconductor companies and advanced manufacturing operations.
Analysts believe India’s growing focus on AI infrastructure, automotive electronics, telecom modernization, cloud computing, and consumer electronics manufacturing is expected to significantly increase long-term semiconductor demand, creating opportunities for global semiconductor ecosystem players to establish local manufacturing and supply operations.
FUJIFILM India Pvt Ltd is part of the global Fujifilm Group, which operates across imaging, healthcare, materials science, electronics, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Through its Electronic Materials Division, the company develops semiconductor materials and chemical solutions supporting advanced chip manufacturing and electronics production globally.
