Rapido has integrated its food delivery service Ownly into its main app in Bengaluru, allowing users to order meals alongside booking bike taxis, autos and cabs. Ownly had been launched as a standalone food delivery app last year, and the integration now puts the service in front of Rapido’s existing mobility user base rather than limiting discovery to users who separately install the food-ordering app.
The move strengthens Rapido’s push into food delivery at a time when the category is being tested by new low-commission and zero-commission models. Ownly has been positioned around lower restaurant commissions, transparent pricing and the use of Rapido’s rider network to reduce logistics costs. By bringing Ownly into the core app, Rapido is attempting to use its existing demand base, fleet density and consumer habit loops to lower customer-acquisition friction.
The integration is currently centred on Bengaluru, a market where food delivery, quick commerce and mobility platforms frequently test new formats before broader rollout. For Rapido, the operational logic is straightforward: its rider network already operates at scale across urban mobility use cases, and food delivery creates an adjacent utilisation layer. The model depends on whether the company can maintain service reliability, restaurant participation and order density without eroding the economics of its mobility business.
The development adds another competitive variable to India’s food-delivery market, where incumbents have spent years building restaurant networks, consumer loyalty, payments layers and delivery-routing capability. Rapido’s advantage, if it can sustain one, would come from a different cost base and existing rider coverage. The challenge will be order-level execution, because food delivery requires tighter fulfilment windows, customer-service workflows, restaurant coordination and quality controls than ride hailing.
The integration also reflects a broader Indian platform trend: mobility, commerce and local services are converging as apps look for higher transaction frequency and better fleet utilisation. For consumers, the visible shift is a single app carrying multiple daily-use services. For restaurants, the appeal is lower platform commission and potentially different demand access. For riders, the model could create more earning opportunities if order allocation and incentives are managed effectively.
Rapido’s food-delivery expansion remains at an early stage, but integrating Ownly into the main app turns the service from an experiment into a more serious platform adjacency.
