
Tokyo, Hitachi has appointed Anand Birje as Chief Executive Officer of its Digital Engineering & AI Solutions Business Unit (DEAI BU), effective August 3, 2026. He succeeds Jun Abe, who previously held the position alongside his responsibilities as CEO of Hitachi’s Digital Systems & Services Sector.
In his new role, Birje will lead Hitachi’s integrated digital engineering and artificial intelligence business, bringing together capabilities across GlobalLogic, Hitachi Digital Services and Hitachi Vantara. He will focus on expanding the company’s digital engineering, cloud, data, platform engineering, IT-OT integration and AI capabilities to support enterprise transformation across industries.
Birje will also play a key role in advancing Hitachi’s Physical AI strategy and accelerating the global expansion of HMAX, the company’s portfolio of AI-enabled solutions for industrial operations. His mandate includes strengthening collaboration across Hitachi’s business units and its global technology ecosystem to deliver industry-specific digital and AI solutions.

Birje brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across digital engineering, cloud, data, artificial intelligence and enterprise transformation. Before joining Hitachi, he served as Chief Executive Officer and Board Member at Encora Inc. He stepped down from the role following Coforge’s completion of its acquisition of Encora in April 2026.
Earlier, Birje spent nearly two decades at HCL Technologies, where he held several senior leadership positions. He most recently served as President of Digital Business Services and a member of the company’s Executive Management Team. His previous roles at HCLTech included Senior Corporate Vice President and Global Head of Digital and Analytics Services, as well as Executive Vice President for Infrastructure and Cloud Services in North America.
His professional experience also includes roles at Atesto Technologies, Capgemini and Emerson Process Management.
