JSW Steel has appointed Amit Sarkar as Chief Operating Officer at its Dolvi operations, bringing extensive experience in steel manufacturing, integrated operations, production planning, asset reliability and operational excellence.
Sarkar has built his career within the steel industry, with significant experience at JSW Steel, where he has held several progressively senior positions, including Senior Vice President, Vice President and General Manager. During his tenure, he has worked across multiple areas of steelmaking and plant operations.
His responsibilities at JSW Steel have included integrated ironmaking, steel melting, hot strip mill operations and lime plant activities, along with production planning and asset reliability. His experience also covers plant expansion, commissioning, digitalisation and operational excellence, giving him exposure to both day-to-day manufacturing operations and large-scale transformation initiatives.
Before joining JSW Steel, Sarkar served as Senior Manager at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). His responsibilities there included operations covering Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF), Hot Metal Desulphurisation System (HMDS), Ladle Heating Furnace (LHF), casting, maintenance and production planning.
Sarkar began his professional career as an Assistant Engineer at JEMCO, where he was involved in cast iron and cast steel roll manufacturing. His early responsibilities included supporting production coordination and quality compliance, providing him with an initial foundation in industrial manufacturing and engineering operations.
Over the course of his career, Sarkar has developed experience spanning ironmaking, steelmaking, rolling operations, production planning, maintenance, asset reliability, commissioning and digitalisation. His progression through technical and operational roles has provided exposure to different stages of the steel manufacturing process.
In his new role as Chief Operating Officer at JSW Steel, Dolvi, Sarkar will bring this operational and technical experience to the leadership of the company’s Dolvi operations. His background combines hands-on steelmaking expertise with experience in managing large-scale operations and transformation programmes.
The appointment marks another step in Sarkar’s career within the steel industry, following senior leadership responsibilities at JSW Steel and earlier experience at SAIL and JEMCO.
