Kolkata: Fusion CX is hiring more than 400 domain experts in India for Annotera, its AI data annotation arm under Omind AI. The roles are in Kolkata, Howrah and Bengaluru, where the new hires join teams that label and review the data used to train and test AI models.
Annotation work has shifted from tagging images and words to checking whether AI-generated answers are correct, complete and safe. That review needs people who know fields such as medicine, law, finance or engineering well enough to spot a wrong answer that sounds right.
NASSCOM estimates that India’s technology sector employed close to six million people in FY2026. In a separate report, the industry body estimated that the AI data annotation market serviced by India could exceed USD 7 billion by 2030, with a potential workforce of up to 10 lakh people in full-time and part-time roles.
Much of this work comes to India from AI developers abroad. Common examples include reviewing and ranking chatbot answers, recording and transcribing speech in Indian and foreign languages, labeling medical scans, and labeling street scenes in camera and LiDAR data for self-driving systems.
Robotics has added a newer kind of work: data collection. Robotics developers need footage of how people handle objects, and workers in India now record tasks such as folding clothes, cooking and cleaning with head-mounted cameras, producing first-person, or egocentric, video, according to the Observer Research Foundation. Teleoperation is a related method, in which a person remotely guides a robot through a task while its movements and sensor readings are recorded as training data. Both types of data are then labeled so that models can learn from them.
Annotera works with text, image, audio, video, 3D and robotics data, including data for large language models and generative AI. Its services include egocentric video annotation, teleoperation data and multilingual annotation. It runs delivery teams in India, the Philippines and Morocco.
“The questions people put to AI systems have become harder, and so has checking the answers,” said Pankaj Dhanuka, Co-founder and CEO of Fusion CX. “It takes someone who has studied the subject to tell you whether an answer is true. Kolkata, Howrah and Bengaluru have many graduates and professionals with that grounding.”
The roles are part of Annotera’s managed annotation service.
Annotera’s current projects cover a wide range of work. Teams label products and shoppers in camera footage from checkout-free stores. They mark objects and hand movements in first-person video used to train humanoid robots. They mark landmarks and lesions in video from bronchoscopy procedures, where doctors examine the lungs with a camera. They label cars, people, lanes and road signs for driver-assistance and self-driving systems. They also label sidewalks, curbs and obstacles in video from food delivery robots, and smoke and flames in drone and satellite images used to spot forest fires. Other teams label 3D laser scans, known as LiDAR, which are used to map spaces for robots, aerial surveys and digital models of real places.
