Samir Dewan Appointed Group CEO at Bajaj Capital

Bajaj Capital has appointed Samir Dewan as Group Chief Executive Officer, bringing more than three decades of experience across wealth management, private banking and affluent banking in India and international markets. In his new role, Dewan will lead Bajaj Capital’s businesses, with a focus on greater integration across the Group, strengthening execution and building capabilities to support scale.

Dewan joins Bajaj Capital from IndusInd Bank, where he served as Senior Executive Vice President and Country Head for Affluent, Private, NRI and International Business. His responsibilities at the bank covered wealth management and client-focused financial services across multiple customer segments.

Before IndusInd Bank, Dewan was associated with Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), where he served as Country CEO for Singapore and Chief Operating Officer of Private Banking for Emerging Markets. His career also includes senior regional finance and operations roles at ABN AMRO across Asia and Greater China.

Earlier in his career, Dewan held senior leadership positions at Bank of America and ANZ Grindlays Bank. His professional experience therefore spans wealth management, private banking, affluent banking, financial management, operations and international financial services.

At Bajaj Capital, Dewan will focus on strengthening alignment across the Group’s businesses while maintaining its customer-focused and entrepreneurial approach. The company said his appointment is intended to support greater scale and integration across its businesses and strengthen the capabilities required to serve a wider customer base.

Commenting on the appointment, Sanjiv Bajaj, Joint Chairman & Managing Director of Bajaj Capital, said, “We have an opportunity now to build greater scale and integration across the Group, while preserving the entrepreneurial culture that has always been central to us. Samir’s experience in building businesses and leading through scale will be an important part of that journey. It also allows me to focus more closely on the larger opportunities ahead for the Group from our long-term vision to strategic partnerships while continuing to shape the culture and direction of the organisation.”

Dewan said, “I am delighted to join Bajaj Capital at an important point in its journey. What stands out is the strength of the foundation, a trusted brand, an entrepreneurial culture and a deep understanding of customers.” He added, “My focus will be to build on that foundation by bringing greater alignment across the Group, strengthening execution and creating the capabilities needed to scale with consistency. I look forward to working with the leadership teams across the group to build the next chapter of Bajaj Capital together.”

Dewan holds an MBA from the Birla Institute and has completed the Advanced Management Program at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania
