Epigamia Co-founder Rahul Jain Launches Kokasa to Build Defence Tech Systems

Epigamia co-founder Rahul Jain, former Housing.com executive Snehil Gautam and former Hindustan Aeronautics executive Vikalp Bagdi have launched Kokasa, a deep-tech venture focused on developing technology systems for the defence, aerospace and space sectors.

Kokasa aims to build collaborative autonomous systems by bringing together engineering, software, product development and manufacturing capabilities. The company is working on mission-critical technologies that can be used across defence and other sectors requiring advanced engineering systems.

The company has not disclosed details of its investment, funding, order value or customers as part of its launch announcement.

“Our vision is to build advanced technologies in India for sectors that are critical to the country’s future,” Jain said. “India today has the engineering talent, manufacturing capability and policy momentum needed to build globally competitive systems locally. Kokasa aims to contribute to the next phase of India’s deep-tech capability.”

According to a company statement issued on Wednesday, Kokasa currently designs and develops mission-critical electromechanical and electrohydraulic systems. Its work covers areas including actuation, motion control, sensing, instrumentation and embedded control.

Gautam said developing mission-critical systems requires a deep understanding of the technology layers involved and ownership of those capabilities.

“That is why we are building capabilities from the physical layer upward, alongside a modular software architecture that can work across systems and platforms. It is exciting to see experienced scientists, researchers and engineers joining us to solve these complex problems,” he said.

Kokasa is already executing programmes aimed at replacing imported systems used in defence platforms, according to the company. These programmes include platforms such as the Su-30MKI, MiG-29 and T-72.

The venture is bringing together physical engineering capabilities and software architecture as part of its approach to developing systems for mission-critical applications. Its work spans hardware technologies involving electromechanical and electrohydraulic systems, along with sensing, instrumentation and embedded control.

Bagdi highlighted the importance of moving beyond the initial development of a working prototype when building systems for demanding environments.

“In mission-critical engineering, getting a prototype to work is only the beginning,” Bagdi said. “The real challenge is making a system perform consistently across demanding environments, qualifying it rigorously and supporting it reliably through its lifecycle. That engineering discipline is what we are building into Kokasa from day one.”

The launch brings together the founders’ experience across consumer businesses, technology and aerospace. Jain is the co-founder of Epigamia, while Gautam previously worked at Housing.com and Bagdi previously worked at Hindustan Aeronautics.

Kokasa’s initial focus is on developing advanced systems for defence, aerospace and space companies, with its current technology portfolio covering actuation, motion control, sensing, instrumentation and embedded control.

The company’s launch comes with a focus on building these capabilities in India and developing systems that can address requirements in sectors where reliability, qualification and long-term system support are critical.

With Kokasa, Jain, Gautam and Bagdi are building a deep-tech venture that combines engineering, software, product development and manufacturing to develop mission-critical systems for defence, aerospace and space applications.
