Amazon India is set to make a bold entry into the fast-growing quick commerce market with its new delivery service, codenamed “Tez.” Scheduled to launch by late December 2024 or early 2025, the initiative accelerates Amazon’s earlier timeline of a 2025 rollout, according to a Reuters report.
This move positions Amazon against major players like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto, which recently secured over $1.3 billion in funding to strengthen its foothold in the 10-minute delivery market. Amazon’s entry is expected to significantly heighten competition in this space.
The ecommerce giant is reportedly setting up dark stores, stocking essential items, and enhancing its logistics infrastructure to ensure seamless operations. Recruitment efforts are also ramping up, with Amazon’s India grocery and essentials team describing the initiative as a “ground-up project” aimed at capturing the booming quick commerce segment.
With its extensive logistics expertise and resources, Amazon’s entry into quick commerce underlines its intent to expand its dominance in India’s rapidly evolving ecommerce ecosystem.
