India’s leading dairy brand, Amul, is set to establish the world’s largest curd (dahi) manufacturing facility with an investment of ₹600 crore in Kolkata. This ambitious project will not only strengthen Amul’s presence in West Bengal but also enhance its production capabilities to cater to the growing demand for dairy products across the region.
The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), which owns the Amul brand, announced this major investment during the recently concluded Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2025. The move underscores Amul’s commitment to expanding its footprint in eastern India while supporting the state’s agricultural and dairy ecosystem.
The upcoming facility will be located at Sankrail Food Park in Howrah, near Kolkata, and will feature a state-of-the-art dairy processing plant with a milk handling capacity of 1.5 million liters per day. The plant is expected to significantly boost the production and distribution of curd and other dairy products, ensuring a steady supply to both local and national markets.
With this investment, Amul aims to leverage advanced dairy processing technology and sustainable manufacturing practices, ensuring high-quality products while supporting thousands of dairy farmers in the region. The initiative aligns with Amul’s broader strategy to enhance food security, strengthen the cooperative model, and contribute to the overall growth of India’s dairy sector.
The establishment of this facility marks a milestone in Amul’s journey, reaffirming its position as a leader in the dairy industry and reinforcing its commitment to delivering nutritious and high-quality dairy products to millions of consumers.
