“The 2026–27 Budget presents a critical opportunity to transition India from a creator-rich market into a creative technology superpower. Two policy interventions could deliver an outsized impact. First, granting priority sector status to the ‘Orange Economy’ would formally recognise creators and creator-focused startups as a core engine of economic growth. Today, designers, editors, and SaaS founders building for the creator ecosystem are often viewed as niche players. If the government treats this as a priority, it makes everything, from getting bank loans to general business support, so much easier for all the designers, editors, and SaaS founders out there. Second, targeted support for GPU access is essential. For companies innovating in AI-led video and design, the high cost of cloud computing remains a major barrier. A dedicated pool of GPU credits or subsidies earmarked for creative R&D, rather than generic technology use, would enable the development of next-generation visual tools.”
