Delhi Police to Deploy AI-Powered Smart Glasses for Enhanced Republic Day Security

Delhi Police is set to significantly strengthen security arrangements for this year’s Republic Day celebrations by deploying AI-enabled smart glasses equipped with facial recognition technology. The initiative aims to bolster real-time surveillance and threat detection during one of the country’s most high-profile national events, which sees heightened security across the national capital.
The smart glasses, developed by Indian deeptech firm AjnaLens, are designed to assist police personnel on the ground by enabling instant identification of individuals flagged in law enforcement databases. Integrated with facial recognition systems, the glasses can match faces captured in real time against a local database of known criminals and suspects, allowing officers to respond quickly and decisively in crowded public spaces.
This deployment marks a first-of-its-kind initiative in Indian law enforcement, combining advanced facial recognition with thermal imaging capabilities in a wearable format. The inclusion of thermal imaging adds another layer of situational awareness, enabling officers to monitor unusual activity even in low-visibility conditions or dense crowds. Together, these features are expected to enhance both preventive policing and rapid response during Republic Day events.
According to officials familiar with the initiative, the AI-enabled glasses will be used at key locations along the Republic Day parade route, entry and exit points, and other sensitive zones where large crowds are expected. The wearable nature of the technology allows officers to conduct surveillance discreetly and efficiently without disrupting public movement, unlike fixed cameras or manual checks.
The move reflects Delhi Police’s broader push toward adopting emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, and smart surveillance to modernise policing and improve public safety outcomes. In recent years, law enforcement agencies across India have increasingly explored AI-driven tools to address challenges posed by large-scale events, urban density, and evolving security threats.
AjnaLens, which has been developing extended reality and AI solutions for defence, enterprise, and public sector use cases, has positioned the smart glasses as a force multiplier for frontline personnel. By bringing intelligence directly into an officer’s field of vision, the system reduces dependence on manual verification and radio-based coordination.
As Republic Day preparations enter their final stages, the deployment of AI-powered smart glasses underscores how technology is becoming central to managing complex security operations. If successful, the initiative could pave the way for wider adoption of wearable AI systems across Indian policing, especially for crowd management, high-risk events, and urban surveillance.
