Fundamentum’s F2A Secures ₹3,000 Crore for Growth-Stage AI and Deeptech Investments

Fundamentum Frontier Advisors has secured ₹3,000 crore for a growth-stage investment fund focused on artificial intelligence and deep technology, while obtaining investor approval to increase the vehicle’s ceiling to ₹3,500 crore. The fund was originally structured with a ₹2,000 crore target and a ₹1,000 crore greenshoe option but received commitments above ₹3,500 crore.

Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani has anchored the fund with ₹200 crore and will serve as a mentor to the investment platform. Approximately 70% of committed capital has come from Indian investors, primarily family offices, with overseas investors accounting for the balance. F2A is led by general partners Ashish Kumar, Debraj Banerjee and Vivek Singla.

The fund intends to invest between ₹100 crore and ₹200 crore in each portfolio company, targeting 12 to 15 businesses over the next two to three years. The strategy covers consumer AI, enterprise software and deeper infrastructure categories such as robotics, semiconductor technology, quantum computing, advanced materials and other engineering-intensive fields.

F2A is already in advanced discussions on three transactions, with its first investment announcement expected in October or November. The investment team is looking for companies with developed technology, an identifiable commercial application and at least one reference customer. One prospective portfolio business was originally established in the United States and is in the process of shifting its domicile to India.

The fund’s structure addresses a financing gap between early venture rounds and the larger capital requirements associated with commercialising advanced technology. Semiconductor, robotics and industrial-technology businesses often need substantial funding for engineering teams, hardware development, testing, certification and initial manufacturing capacity before achieving scale. F2A’s cheque sizes are intended to support companies that have passed initial technical validation but require growth capital to expand.

The enlarged domestic allocation also reflects increasing participation by Indian family offices and institutions in frontier-technology funds. Historically, Indian deeptech companies have depended heavily on overseas capital or relatively small specialist funds, particularly once their requirements moved beyond seed financing.

F2A expects to complete its final close within approximately two months. The additional 500 crore remains subject to final commitments from institutional investors. Its eventual deployment will add to expanding public and private pools of capital targeting AI, semiconductor, space, quantum and advanced-manufacturing ventures in India.
