Google Unveils Screenless Fitbit Air to Compete With Whoop

Google has officially introduced the Fitbit Air, a new screenless fitness wearable designed to compete with devices like Whoop and other minimalist health trackers. The wearable is priced at $100 and focuses on continuous health monitoring without the distractions of a traditional smartwatch display.

The Fitbit Air includes a wide range of health and wellness tracking features, including 24/7 heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking (SpO2), sleep stage analysis, resting heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), and irregular heart rhythm notifications for atrial fibrillation (A-fib). Google stated that the device is aimed at users who find smartwatches bulky, expensive, or overly complicated.

The wearable has an extremely lightweight design, weighing only 12 grams with the band attached and 5.2 grams without it. According to Google, the Fitbit Air is 25% smaller than the Fitbit Luxe and 50% smaller than the Inspire 3. The company emphasized that the screenless design allows users to “live in the moment” while still tracking health and activity data through the newly rebranded Google Health app.

Fitbit Air automatically tracks common workouts and activities, including running, walking, cycling, rowing, and other high-intensity exercises. Google said the system becomes more personalized over time by learning user habits and fitness routines. The device also supports silent vibration alarms, sleep-based Smart Wake features, and weekly cardio load insights.

The launch is closely tied to Google’s broader AI-powered health strategy. The Fitbit Air integrates with Google Health Coach, a Gemini-powered AI wellness assistant that creates customized workout plans, recovery insights, sleep recommendations, and health guidance based on a user’s real-time fitness data and lifestyle. Access to advanced AI features is included through Google Health Premium, which costs $9.99 per month or $99 annually.

Google also highlighted battery efficiency as a key feature of the Fitbit Air. The wearable offers up to seven days of battery life, while a five-minute charge can provide enough power for an entire day of use. It is water-resistant up to 50 meters and will launch with multiple interchangeable bands, including a Performance Loop Band, Active Band, and Elevated Modern Band.

The Fitbit Air is currently available for preorder and is scheduled to officially go on sale on May 26, 2026. Google also revealed a special edition version created in collaboration with NBA star Stephen Curry, featuring exclusive design elements and upgraded materials.
