Google has announced that its Gemini-powered AI Health Coach will officially launch on May 19 as part of its newly rebranded Google Health platform. The feature will be available through Google Health Premium, previously known as Fitbit Premium, and will cost $9.99 per month or $99 annually. Users subscribed to Google AI Pro and Ultra plans will also receive access at no additional cost.
The AI-powered coach is designed to function as a personal fitness trainer, sleep advisor, and wellness assistant. Built using Google’s Gemini AI models, the service provides personalized recommendations based on a user’s health goals, exercise preferences, daily routine, injuries, available workout equipment, sleep patterns, and lifestyle habits.
Google said the Health Coach has been in public preview since last year and has been refined using user feedback. During onboarding, users answer questions related to their fitness objectives and health conditions, allowing the AI system to generate customized plans and insights. The platform can also answer health-related questions, provide adaptive workout guidance, and offer wellness suggestions in natural language conversations.
As part of the rollout, Google is officially rebranding the Fitbit app as “Google Health.” The updated app will feature a redesigned interface with improved sleep tracking, customizable dashboards, and integration with health records and third-party devices. Google also confirmed plans to phase out the Google Fit app later in 2026.
The launch is also tied to Google’s broader wearable ecosystem expansion. Alongside the new AI health platform, the company introduced Fitbit Air, a lightweight screenless fitness tracker priced at $99. The device is designed for continuous health monitoring and integrates directly with the Google Health app.
Google emphasized that user privacy remains a major focus for the platform. The company stated that health data collected through Fitbit and Google Health will not be used for advertising purposes. A clinical advisory panel has also been involved in developing the AI health features to ensure safer and more reliable wellness guidance.
