India — Hitachi Energy has announced an investment of ₹1,000 crore to expand its technology and manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu, strengthening its capabilities in power transmission, grid modernization, engineering, and digital technologies. The investment is expected to generate around 1,000 high-value technical jobs over the next three to five years.
The expansion will be carried out through Hitachi Energy India Ltd. and Hitachi Energy Technology Services Pvt. Ltd. under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Government of Tamil Nadu. The investment will enhance the company’s existing facilities in Chennai and Chengalpattu, supporting India’s growing demand for advanced power infrastructure and clean energy technologies.
A key part of the investment will be the expansion of the Hitachi Group’s Global Technology and Innovation Centre (GTIC) in Porur, Chennai. The facility will strengthen capabilities in engineering, research and development (R&D), software engineering, digital technologies, and global technology services, supporting innovation across Hitachi Energy’s worldwide operations.
The company will also expand its manufacturing facility in Chengalpattu, increasing production capacity for power transmission and grid infrastructure equipment. The expansion is expected to support India’s ongoing investments in grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and transmission network development.
The investment comes as India accelerates the development of its electricity transmission infrastructure to support rising power demand, renewable energy capacity, and the transition towards a cleaner energy ecosystem. Technology companies and power equipment manufacturers are increasingly expanding engineering and manufacturing operations in India to serve both domestic and international markets.
