Instamart Partners with HPCL to Launch India’s First On-Demand LPG Cylinder Delivery Service

Quick commerce platform Instamart has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to introduce what the companies describe as India’s first on-demand LPG cylinder delivery service through a quick commerce platform. The service has been rolled out as a pilot in Bengaluru, allowing consumers to order cooking gas cylinders directly through the Instamart app, extending quick commerce beyond groceries and household essentials into a regulated utility category.

The initial rollout offers customers a choice between HPCL’s newly launched 10 kg HP Navya composite LPG cylinder and the 5 kg metal LPG cylinder. Unlike conventional domestic LPG services, the offering does not require users to have an existing HP Gas connection, making it accessible to a broader set of consumers, including students, working professionals, small households and those seeking an additional cooking gas cylinder. The companies have not disclosed pricing details for the service.

The launch also marks the commercial debut of HP Navya, HPCL’s next-generation composite LPG cylinder. Designed to be lighter than conventional cylinders, HP Navya features a corrosion-resistant body and a translucent outer shell that enables customers to monitor the remaining gas level. According to HPCL, the cylinder has been developed with enhanced safety features while offering greater portability for urban households.

Customers can place orders through the Instamart application by selecting either the 10 kg composite cylinder or the 5 kg metal cylinder. The first purchase is treated as a new cylinder purchase, while subsequent orders are processed as refills, with customers required to return the empty HPCL cylinder at the time of delivery. Orders will be fulfilled through HPCL’s authorised distributor network and delivered by trained personnel in accordance with applicable safety and regulatory protocols. First-time buyers will also be required to complete identity verification before delivery.

Commenting on the partnership, Amitesh Jha, CEO of Instamart, said, “Instamart has expanded its consumption use cases well beyond groceries to become part of everyday life. With HPCL, we’re extending that convenience to an essential household service, bringing LPG onto Instamart while maintaining the safety and reliability standards consumers expect.”

Amit Garg, Director – Marketing, HPCL, said, “Customer needs are evolving, and HPCL is committed to provide innovative solutions to meet them. We are making LPG more accessible and convenient for Naya Bharat with focus on safety, trust and reliability that customers associate HP Gas with.” He added, “HP Navya, our new Composite LPG Cylinder brand, reflects our commitment to delivering innovative energy solutions that make everyday life simpler and more convenient. Through the Instamart platform, we will be able to reach customers through a fast, convenient and digitally enabled platform, making HP Navya Composite LPG Cylinders more accessible while enhancing the overall customer experience.”

The collaboration reflects the continued expansion of India’s quick commerce sector into new product categories that require specialised fulfilment and regulatory compliance. For Instamart, which already offers a catalogue of more than 50,000 products, LPG delivery represents a move into essential utility services. For HPCL, the partnership introduces an additional digital distribution channel aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for consumers. The companies said the Bengaluru pilot will serve as the initial phase before the service is considered for expansion to additional cities.
