At the ongoing SID Display Week 2025 in San Jose, California, LG Electronics is redefining the future of in-vehicle display technology with its latest innovations aimed at the mobility sector. Under the theme “Driving the Future,” LG introduced several next-generation automotive displays, including a stretchable display that offers both adaptability and immersion—particularly suited for high-tech electric vehicles.
One of the standout developments is LG’s stretchable automotive display, designed to be mounted on a vehicle’s central fascia. This screen can extend by up to 50% while preserving high-resolution performance with 100 PPI and full RGB color accuracy. A defining feature of this display is its ability to transform from a flat surface into a tactile interface with protruding physical buttons, merging sleek aesthetics with practical functionality.
LG describes this as a technology that can turn any vehicle interior into a dynamic display surface, with image quality rivaling that of conventional screens. The innovation aims to eliminate the need for multiple screens and separate physical controls by integrating them into a single, responsive display unit.
Another noteworthy feature is the switchable privacy mode, which enables front-seat passengers to enjoy entertainment or access apps without distracting the driver—a step forward in enhancing both in-car experience and safety.
Complementing this is LG’s massive 57-inch Pillar-to-Pillar OLED display, which spans the full width of a car’s dashboard. This is currently the largest of its kind and follows LG’s previous success in delivering a 40-inch version to automakers.
LG also presented its 18-inch Slidable OLED, a retractable display that stores in the car’s ceiling when not in use, designed especially for rear-seat entertainment. Engineered for resilience, this screen operates efficiently in extreme temperatures, from -40°C to 85°C.
These developments underscore LG’s commitment to transforming vehicle interiors into immersive, intelligent environments that cater to both driver safety and passenger enjoyment.
