PayPal has appointed Shaun Khalfan as its new Senior Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). With over 20 years of experience in information security and risk management, Khalfan previously held leadership roles at prominent organizations including the US Department of Homeland Security, Discover Financial Services, Barclays International, and Freddie Mac. In a LinkedIn post, PayPal expressed excitement about Khalfan’s appointment, highlighting his extensive background and expertise in cybersecurity.
In his previous roles, Khalfan played crucial roles in cybersecurity risk reduction, security architecture, and enhancing end-user experience. He shared his enthusiasm for joining PayPal, emphasizing his admiration for the leadership team and the company’s growth strategy in securing digital operations globally.
Khalfan is an alumnus of the University of Maryland and the George Washington University School of Business.
According to a 2023 report by Cloudflare, PayPal, along with Meta and Microsoft, are top targets for phishing scams, with hackers creating deceptive domain names resembling these brands to steal user data. Other notable targets include Adobe, Amazon, Apple, eBay, Instagram, and Netflix.
