Rashim Kapoor Elevated to Deputy CTO, Technology and Transformation at Airtel

Bharti Airtel has elevated Rashim Kapoor to Deputy Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Technology and Transformation, expanding his responsibilities across the telecom company’s technology, transformation and network operations. The leadership move marks another step in Kapoor’s career at Airtel, where he has held several senior technology and network leadership positions.

In his new role, Kapoor will contribute to Airtel’s technology and transformation agenda, with responsibilities spanning technology strategy, digitalisation, network engineering, planning and operations. His expanded mandate comes as telecom operators continue to modernise their networks and strengthen digital capabilities to support growing data consumption and evolving customer requirements.

Kapoor has built extensive experience within Airtel through a series of leadership roles. Before his latest elevation, he served as Deputy Chief Technology Officer, along with earlier positions including Executive Vice President – Networks, Senior Vice President – Core Networks, and Head – Core Networks and Services. Across these roles, he has been involved in technology strategy, network transformation, digitisation, engineering, planning and operational functions.

His experience at Airtel has given him exposure to several critical components of telecom infrastructure. His work across core networks and broader network operations has involved supporting the development and transformation of technology infrastructure as the company responds to changing connectivity requirements.

Kapoor’s career in the telecommunications industry began before joining Airtel. He previously worked at Reliance Communications as Lead – Network Solutions, where he was involved in the architecture and design of telecom network products and solutions covering mobile, fixed-line and enterprise networks.

Earlier, Kapoor started his professional career with Escotel Mobile, serving as Manager – Data Networks. In that position, he developed expertise in the architecture and design of data networks for mobile networks, establishing the technical foundation for his subsequent career in telecom network engineering and leadership.

His progression through increasingly senior positions at Airtel reflects his experience across both technical and strategic aspects of telecom networks. The new Deputy CTO role will further broaden his responsibilities toward technology transformation while building on his long-standing involvement in Airtel’s network and technology functions.

Kapoor’s elevation comes at a time when India’s telecom industry is undergoing continued technology transformation, driven by expanding 5G infrastructure, increasing data traffic, network digitisation and the need for more efficient and scalable operations. Technology leaders are playing an increasingly important role in integrating network capabilities with digital platforms and ensuring that infrastructure can support future connectivity requirements.

With his elevation to Deputy CTO, Technology and Transformation, Kapoor will take on a broader technology leadership mandate at Airtel, drawing on his experience across network strategy, engineering, planning, digitisation and operations. His career progression also highlights Airtel’s focus on strengthening leadership from within as it continues to evolve its technology and network infrastructure.
