Singapore-based AI startup Featherless has raised $20 million in a Series A funding round, marking a significant milestone as it looks to expand its open-source AI infrastructure globally. The round was co-led by AMD Ventures and Airbus Ventures, with participation from investors including BMW i Ventures, Kickstart Ventures, Panache Ventures, and Wavemaker Ventures, highlighting strong investor confidence in the company’s vision.
Featherless operates a serverless AI inference platform that allows enterprises and developers to run artificial intelligence models without managing underlying infrastructure. The platform supports more than 30,000 open-source models across language, vision, and audio applications, making it one of the fastest-growing solutions in the open AI ecosystem.
The company positions itself as a neutral layer in the AI stack, aiming to reduce dependence on proprietary cloud providers and hardware ecosystems. By enabling businesses to deploy and scale AI models independently, Featherless is addressing growing concerns around vendor lock-in, cost efficiency, and data sovereignty in enterprise AI adoption.
A key part of its strategy includes deep integration with diverse hardware platforms, particularly through collaboration with AMD, allowing open-source models to run efficiently on alternative computing architectures. This approach is designed to provide enterprises with more flexibility and lower operational costs compared to traditional AI deployment models.
The newly raised capital will be used to expand the company’s global infrastructure, enhance its model library, and develop new tools such as an open-source agent runtime. The funding reflects a broader shift in the AI industry toward open, decentralized ecosystems, as startups like Featherless aim to democratize access to advanced AI capabilities while challenging the dominance of closed, proprietary platforms.
