SolarSquare in Talks to Raise Up to $60 Million as India’s Rooftop Solar Sector Attracts Strong VC Interest

Indian rooftop solar startup SolarSquare is reportedly in advanced discussions to raise between $55 million and $60 million in a new funding round as investor interest in India’s clean energy and rooftop solar market continues to grow rapidly.

According to the report, venture capital firms B Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners are expected to co-lead the Series C funding round, which could value SolarSquare between $450 million and $500 million. If finalized, the deal would more than double the company’s valuation within roughly 18 months, reflecting rising confidence in India’s residential solar market.

Founded as a rooftop solar installation and financing platform, SolarSquare helps households and housing societies adopt solar energy systems. The company has been expanding aggressively as India pushes toward ambitious renewable energy targets and increasing electrification demand.

The report highlighted that India aims to achieve 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with solar expected to contribute more than half of the total. India also became the world’s third-largest solar power producer in 2025, behind only China and the United States

India’s installed solar capacity has reportedly grown from around 3 GW in 2014 to over 150 GW in 2026, driven by government subsidies, policy support, falling panel costs, and growing demand for alternative energy solutions.

The article noted that rooftop solar adoption in India has accelerated significantly over the past two years as businesses and homeowners seek protection against rising electricity costs and grid instability.

SolarSquare has reportedly also been building financing solutions that allow customers to spread installation costs over time, creating recurring revenue opportunities beyond traditional installation services. Investors are believed to view this financing capability as a major growth driver for the company.

The funding discussions reflect a broader trend of rising venture capital activity in India’s climate-tech and infrastructure sectors, with investors increasingly betting on clean energy, mobility, fintech, and sustainability-focused startups.

Industry analysts believe India’s rooftop solar market could witness substantial long-term growth as urbanization, energy demand, and government clean-energy initiatives continue expanding across the country.
