The Telangana government has partnered with Microsoft, the 1M1B Foundation and MeitY Startup Hub to establish a Green Skills and Applied AI Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad.
Expected to begin operations by August 2026, the facility is described by its partners as India’s first Green Skills and Applied AI Centre of Excellence with a specialised green-pharma track. It will focus on preparing young people for work involving artificial intelligence, sustainable pharmaceutical production and emerging manufacturing technologies.
The centre will be operated by the 1M1B Foundation. Microsoft will support the initiative through its corporate social responsibility programme by providing AI technologies, digital-learning resources, employee mentorship, innovation challenges and capacity-building programmes.
The project is intended to help young participants apply AI to practical problems in pharmaceutical and industrial production. Its curriculum will cover areas such as sustainable manufacturing, resource efficiency, climate technologies and the responsible application of artificial intelligence.
Telangana Information Technology and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said the state’s future growth would depend on developing a workforce capable of leading AI-driven changes in life sciences and manufacturing.
The initiative supports Telangana’s ambition to strengthen Hyderabad’s position as an international centre for pharmaceuticals, life sciences and technology-led manufacturing. The state is seeking to combine its established pharmaceutical industry with newer capabilities in AI and environmentally sustainable production.
Microsoft India Development Centre Managing Director and President Rajiv Kumar said the programme would particularly seek to support women and first-generation learners. It will also attempt to connect participants with employment and internship opportunities in the emerging green economy.
The Hyderabad facility forms part of a national network of Green Skills and Applied AI centres being developed by Microsoft and 1M1B in collaboration with MeitY Startup Hub and participating state governments. Centres are planned across five Indian cities, including Bengaluru, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Noida and Shillong.
The wider programme aims to engage 100,000 young people in applied AI and green skills by 2030. Its partners are targeting more than 50,000 jobs, internships, apprenticeships and entrepreneurship opportunities nationally. These figures are programme targets rather than employment commitments already secured.
