
WPP Media has announced the appointment of Averill Sequeira as Chief Strategy Officer at EssenceMediacom, strengthening its leadership team with a seasoned strategist who brings more than 20 years of expertise in media, marketing, and strategic communications. Averill’s career is marked by a track record of building innovative, data-driven solutions for global brands, underpinned by a deep understanding of consumer behavior and market dynamics.
Before stepping into his new role, Averill held multiple leadership positions at EssenceMediacom India, including Head of Creative Futures and Chief Product Officer, where he was instrumental in driving product innovation and marketing strategy. His efforts consistently focused on fusing creativity with technology, ensuring clients benefited from next-generation media and communications solutions.
His professional journey also includes senior leadership stints across leading organizations. At Cheil India, he served as General Manager – Planning, overseeing integrated strategy for high-impact campaigns. During his tenure at Mindshare, a GroupM company under WPP, he worked as Principal Partner – Strategy and Senior Director – Strategy, helping clients navigate evolving consumer trends with effective brand positioning. Earlier in his career, Averill co-founded TranSkills India Pvt Ltd, a skill development venture, further reflecting his entrepreneurial approach to leadership and transformation.
Over the years, Averill has led strategic initiatives for marquee clients including PepsiCo, blending customer insights, marketing communications, and creative problem-solving to deliver measurable business outcomes. His career began at Lodestar Labcentre and Madison Communications, where he built a strong foundation in media planning and consultancy, giving him an end-to-end perspective of the advertising and media ecosystem.
In his new capacity as Chief Strategy Officer at EssenceMediacom, Averill will play a pivotal role in shaping the agency’s strategic vision, driving client transformation journeys, and ensuring WPP Media continues to stay at the forefront of an industry being reshaped by data, technology, and creativity.
