In a strategic move ahead of its anticipated IPO, Tata-backed online grocery platform BigBasket has appointed Manish Bajoria as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Bajoria brings over two decades of experience in financial leadership and digital transformation to the role, having previously served as CFO at Vini Cosmetics, the parent company of Fogg deodorants.
In his new role, Bajoria will be responsible for overseeing BigBasket’s financial operations as the company scales and innovates across multiple verticals.
“We are happy to have Manish on board at a time when BigBasket is growing across many fronts. He brings deep financial experience and a practical understanding of how businesses work on the ground,” said Hari Menon, Co-founder and CEO of BigBasket.
Before his tenure at Vini Cosmetics, Bajoria held senior positions at Amazon and Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), where he led various financial and digital transformation initiatives.
This leadership update comes as BigBasket intensifies its focus on profitability. For FY24, the company’s B2C arm narrowed net loss by 17% to ₹1,267.2 Cr, while operating revenue rose 6% to ₹7,884.5 Cr. Its B2B segment, meanwhile, crossed ₹10,000 Cr in revenue, while cutting losses by 21% to ₹1,415.2 Cr.
As part of its next growth phase, BigBasket is heavily investing in quick commerce through BBNow, its 10–30 minute delivery vertical. In FY25, the company aims to reach $1.5 Bn in sales and reduce losses by 20%, according to internal targets. It is expanding its dark store infrastructure and increasing presence in non-metro cities to support this shift.
The company recently piloted 10-minute food delivery in Bengaluru and plans to roll it out nationally by FY26.
Despite being a relatively late entrant into the quick commerce race compared to Zepto, Blinkit, and Instamart, BigBasket has a significant advantage through its strong private label ecosystem. Brands like Fresho, BB Royal, Tasties, and Indie Secrets contribute heavily to revenue, especially in its B2B business, where private labels account for 40% of sales, according to Seshu Kumar Tirumala, Chief Buying and Merchandising Officer at BigBasket.
The appointment of a seasoned CFO marks another milestone in BigBasket’s preparations for public listing, positioning the company for financial rigor and operational resilience in a competitive market landscape.
